How do I cut mesh backed tiles to fit?
I am using 1 inch by 1 inch mesh backed tiles to tile the backsplash of my kitchen, but it looks like I'm going to need to cut them in half to fit up against my cabinets. I can't figure out how to cut them in half while they are still on the mesh backing...is this possible? I don't want to take them off of the mesh backing because that will ruin the spacing. Help?
Wet saw, if you have access to one. Use a utility knife to cut the extra full pieces, but then just draw a line on the pieces to cut and go for it. Those small 1" pieces will want to turn, so be careful. You don't need to cut them separately, just leave them on the mesh. If the backing is a paper type, they are going to separate anyway from the water, so it may be easier to cut the one row. If the backing is fiberglass or plastic, odds are they won't separate from the water. But even if they do, you'd still be in the same boat if you cut one at a time.
It is best hide the cut edge as best as possible, so under wall cabinet is best. You're on the right track, good luck.
